Our dynamic team of scientists, policy experts and non-profit professionals is looking to expand our data-driven, scientific programs. The League to Save Lake Tahoe (League) is searching for a Science Data Coordinator (SDC) to lead our data management, analysis, mapping and reporting to support the League's programs and projects. Under the direction of the Senior Science Policy Analyst (SSPA), the SDC will manage and translate data collected through our programs to inform management decisions and help us tell compelling stories that shape our policies to Keep Tahoe Blue.

The SDC will be part of our dynamic team based in beautiful South Lake Tahoe and will help refine the League’s data capabilities to further our mission. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and have expertise in data management and analysis. This individual will design and provide mapping related materials and products, inform and update online survey tools as the League’s representative for citizen science reporting platforms, and manage all data generated through our science programs. By applying best practices in data collection and management, the SDC will amplify the impact of our unique “science to solutions” approach. The SDC will also attend and support League programs, community events and presentations.

What the position involves:

  • Data management, collection and program analysis:
    • Through the coordination of data collection, manage all program-generated data for the League, including GIS data and entering data into Salesforce.
    • Work with the community engagement team to provide information on data trends and improvements to data collection and programs, including but not limited to: Tahoe Blue Crews, signature cleanups, Eyes on the Lake, Pipe Keepers and Snapshot Day.
    • Provide relevant mapping materials and data for program managers to inform policy, advocacy and program efficacy.
    • Create story maps and/or other data visualization materials (including GIS maps) in coordination with League staff.
    • Inventory, calibrate and order equipment for citizen science programs and request applicable materials as needed.
  • Citizen Science Tahoe App coordination:
    • Represent the League at Citizen Science Tahoe App stakeholder meetings and provide suggestions for App improvement and updates.
    • Manage all data generated from the App and incorporate improvements.
  • Outreach and engagement:
    • Assist the Community Engagement team with events and programs.
    • Support other League programs by incorporating citizen science principles into those programs where appropriate (i.e. data collection and management, maps, quality assurance plans, etc.).
    • Inform interactive, science-based educational displays and activities for the Education Center and general outreach.


Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • B.A. or B.S. in relevant field with 3+ years of Data Management and Analysis experience or Associates Degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Proficient in the use of Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and extensions, ArcGIS Server, Geodatabases, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of reliability in managing data and records using software.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams and diverse individuals.
  • Possesses good judgment and works well with others.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Efficient and effective at managing and completing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends, as required.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors, potentially in inclement weather conditions; able to hike up to 3 miles.
  • Computer proficiency with Windows, Office 365 and Google Apps.


Preferred:

  • Familiarity with database management tools/software (Microsoft Access, Salesforce, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with Lake Tahoe environmental and policy issues.
  • An interest and passion for environmental conservation and the League’s mission to protect, restore and advocate for the ecosystem health and scenic beauty of the Lake Tahoe Basin.


League-specific requirements
:

  • Must have a current COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Employees are required to have a vehicle that is in good working order, will be required to show proof of current valid driving license, vehicle registration, and current effective insurance coverage on or before the first day of employment.
  • Employee’s vehicle should be well maintained, able to function in any and all weather conditions including heavy snow, and must be dependable for trips to and around the Lake Tahoe Basin, Bay Area, Reno, and Sacramento. If an employee does not have such a vehicle they may rent one at their own expense.
  • Position requires some physical activity such as bending, stooping, lifting and carrying. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
