Reducing To-Go Food Litter

Tahoe has a litter problem. During the pandemic, to-go food waste has been a major culprit.
Reduce litter from to-go foodTo Keep Tahoe Blue, the League encourages restaurants to:
  • Only provide utensils, straws, napkins and other single-use items upon request.
  • Use only compostable or reusable take-out and delivery items.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and polystyrene, following City of South Lake Tahoe ordinances.
  • Post this flyer in your restaurant.
The City of South Lake Tahoe is offering support for restaurants who follow these guidelines for their to-go food business. On December 15, 2020 the City Council approved $100,000 in reimbursements for restaurants to purchase to-go containers and other items necessary for take-out and delivery services.
